POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Counselor works with students in high school programs to address all students’ academic and career development needs. The Academic Counselor will implement a comprehensive school-counseling program that promotes and enhances student achievement. The Academic Counselor shall promote equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for all students. 

 

This person will be expected to adhere to the Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas Standards and Expectations for Licensed Employees and report directly to the school site administrator. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborates with parents, teachers, principal, vice principals, and other stakeholders to address the needs of all students through prevention and intervention programs. 
• Develop and input student’s schedules per a Quarter System.  
• Works with Administration to assist in developing the master schedule and decide on course offerings.       
• Meets with students at enrollment to conduct a pre-admission evaluation of the student’s transcript and advise the student on the length of time it may take him/her to earn a high school diploma. 
• Develops individualized learning plans for students on caseload and follows-up with students to ensure that students are meeting the milestones established in their individualized learning plans.  
• Works closely with Administration to provide early identification of students at risk of failing or leaving school prematurely and applies appropriate interventions, both instructional and with auxiliary services.  
• Entering and maintaining academic records for all graduating students.   
• Serves as a liaison with community colleges, four-year universities, and other career/technical programs.   
• Develops relationships with a variety of institutions and programs to bring various resources to Coral Academy.
